I do that all the time. I bought some plain white towels because they were on sale. The first time I used them at a hotel, the owner nearly went balistic until I pointed out that his had the tell-tell "green stripe" on them. After that, I made sure to not try to get the dark stains out too well, that way they will know they are my towels and not theirs.
